For many people, living with TMJD can be a lifelong challenge. It’s not just occasional discomfort – it’s an ongoing pain-filled struggle that affects overall quality of life.
Your TMJD journey is unique, and your treatment should be too. Over about 5 appointments, we take the time to truly understand your current condition and how TMJD has impacted your day-to-day life. We also carefully evaluate your head and neck muscles, posture, and overall jaw function to design a treatment plan tailored to your needs.
We offer leading-edge TMJD treatment options focused on restoring comfort, improving function, and supporting your pain-free well-being. Schedule your consultation today.
With our advanced, customized treatment paths designed for your unique needs, we evaluate your bite, joint health, muscle patterns, and tooth wear and tear to determine the right course of action.
This precision-based, non-surgical approach corrects bite timing and muscle tension. Disclusion Time Reduction (DTR) Therapy uses highly advanced Tekscan and EMG technology to measure the timing and force of your bite to identify how quickly your muscles respond. Even tiny premature contact points can trigger significant muscle tension, leading to headaches, jaw pain, and ongoing TMJD symptoms. By making extremely precise, microscopic adjustments to your natural teeth, DTR Therapy restores a balanced bite and reduces muscle overactivation – often with fast, lasting symptom relief and improved jaw function.
DTR Therapy is ideal for patients who have bite-related muscle hyperactivity and may experience headaches, facial and jaw pain, discomfort, or fatigue, or who have a bite imbalance.

This first visit is about 2 hours and includes a full TMJD assessment. Dr. Alexandra recommends bringing someone with you, as we cover a lot of important information. During this appointment, we take any necessary X-rays, photographs, and a CBCT scan to obtain a detailed 3D image of your jaw joints. We will review your detailed medical and dental history, discuss your TMJD journey and previous providers, and assess the muscles of your head and neck, as well as your head posture.
In this visit, we review your jaw and bite data, Tekscan mapping, EMG readings, and supporting diagnostics to get a more detailed look at your unique situation and then create a tailored action plan.
This visit is where we make precise adjustments to your teeth with DTR treatment to correct bite timing and reduce muscle strain.
During this visit, we will fine-tune your bite timing as your jaw muscles begin to respond to the new adjustments.
As your jaw structure heals and your function, balance, and posture improve, we’ll gain a clearer understanding of what adjustments may still be needed. At this stage, we may fine-tune your bite to maintain proper function.
Ongoing Follow-Ups:
We meet with you typically once per month for 4–5 months, depending on your progress, to check in and see how everything is functioning.
This stabilizing, two-phase treatment plan is designed for guiding and repositioning bite and jaw alignment for patients who experience headaches, jaw pain, clicking or popping, worn teeth, uneven bite and ear issues. Orthotic Therapy uses a custom-fabricated appliance to help guide and position the jaw into proper neuromuscular alignment. Rather than adjusting natural teeth (as with DTR), this method uses a removable or fixed appliance to test and correct bite function.
After Phase 1, when the custom orthotic has helped identify the correct bite position and symptoms have improved, patients move to Phase 2. From there, long-term options may include a removable orthotic, braces, crowns, or, if necessary, full-mouth reconstruction.

This first visit includes a full TMJD assessment, diagnostic imaging, and a clinical evaluation. Dr. Alexandra recommends bringing someone with you, as we cover a lot of important information. During this appointment, we take any necessary X-rays and photographs, review your detailed medical and dental history, discuss your TMJD journey and previous providers, and assess the muscles of the head along with your neck and head posture.
This includes reviewing all data and imaging scans, and conducting K-7 EMG muscle testing, jaw tracking, sonography, ULF-TENS therapy, as well as x-rays to help us fully understand how your jaw and muscles are functioning before we configure your bite.
This appointment focuses on relaxing the jaw muscles and determining the most comfortable, balanced bite position for your orthotic.
Your custom orthotic is placed, adjusted, and fine-tuned to your needs. Detailed instructions for care are provided during your visit as well.
You come in every 2–3 weeks or once a month to have your orthotic adjusted, depending on how things are progressing. These adjustments are for 4–6 months, depending on the patient.
A semi-permanent solution to your jaw discomfort. They are removable, but may be worn up to 24 hours a day. Orthotics are designed to move the lower jaw into proper neuromuscular positioning and reduce painful TMJD symptoms.
We offer both full-mouth crown restoration and partial crowns for targeted areas, depending on each patient’s needs. Like an orthotic, crowns can help maintain the comfortable, pain-free bite position that relieves TMJD symptoms, but unlike an orthotic, they’re permanent. Crowns are often an ideal choice for patients with a history of grinding or worn teeth, as they rebuild lost tooth structure due to excessive wear, while also giving you a stronger, more beautiful smile.
These are not your traditional braces! Our approach to orthodontics considers how your teeth and jaw should naturally function, not just how your smile looks. The objective of our braces treatment protocol is to move the teeth and remodel your jaw and bone structure to a more comfortable – and permanent – position.

TMJ treatment typically involves a series of about five appointments. The timeline can vary based on individual needs and the specific treatment plan, but each step is designed to progressively correct your bite and alleviate TMJ symptoms.
You may need TMJ treatment if you experience symptoms like jaw pain, difficulty chewing, a clicking or popping sound when moving your jaw, ear pain, or headaches. A detailed evaluation by a TMJ specialist that includes assessing your medical history, jaw muscles, and posture can confirm the need for treatment.
While relieving pain is a primary goal, TMJ treatment also aims to correct the underlying issues causing TMJD, such as bite misalignment. It focuses on improving jaw function, preventing reoccurrence of symptoms, and enhancing overall quality of life, not just pain relief.
The most effective treatment for TMJ varies depending on the individual’s condition but may include Disclusion Time Reduction (DTR), orthotic appliances, crowns, or braces. These options aim to move the jaw to a proper neuromuscular position, reduce symptoms, and restore the mouth to optimal functionality. A personalized treatment plan, designed after thorough evaluation and diagnostics, ensures the best approach for lasting relief.
Non-surgical TMJ treatments are typically considered out-of-pocket expenses, as most insurance plans do not cover these types of treatments. This stance by insurance companies means that, despite the necessity and effectiveness of TMJ treatments, patients may need to prepare for these costs independently.
