Dr. Alexandra S. George DDS provides quality long-lasting porcelain veneers that can completely transform your smile.

A smile that meets your needs and exceeds your expectations.

Our veneers are customized specifically for you – with the perfect shade and amount of translucency and design that will give you the natural, enhanced smile that you deserve.

What Is A Porcelain Veneer?

Porcelain veneers are thin, custom-made porcelain shells designed to cover the front surface of your teeth to improve your smile’s appearance. They are bonded to the front of your teeth with very minimal prep to provide you with a bright, natural-looking smile!

We recommend porcelain veneers for patients who have:

• Deep or severe stains, including those resistant to tooth-whitening procedures
• Replacement for existing bonding
• Teeth with visible cracks, pitting and other kinds of surface damage
• Crooked teeth
• Disproportionately sized or shaped teeth
• Misshapen teeth
• Gaps between teeth

What to expect with the veneer process

While creating veneers is a fairly simple and straightforward process, we do things differently at Pittsburgh Dentist. Dr. Alexandra S. George DDS takes the time to assess your mouth as a whole and ensures that all mechanical functions of the jaw are working properly. We go beyond treating your teeth to make sure the rest of your mouth is healthy, too. By looking at your mouth as a whole, your veneers can last longer and look and feel as natural as possible.

Porcelain veneers typically take two visits to complete. Before porcelain veneers are applied, a small amount of enamel is removed from the natural teeth to smooth and shape them for a proper fit. Then, we take an impression of the teeth which is sent to the lab where the porcelain veneers will be custom-made for you. When you come in for your next appointment to have the veneers applied, Dr. Alex will shape and mold them, then bond the veneer to your tooth for a comfortable feel and natural look.

The benefits of porcelain veneers

Commonly referred to as the “Hollywood Smile”, porcelain veneers are one of the most effective cosmetic dental treatments that produce beautiful results. Porcelain is the most durable material for veneers and, because they’re custom-made, look incredibly natural. Veneers are a great investment if you want to improve your smile and confidence.

The difference between porcelain and composite veneers

The two main types of veneers are porcelain and composite. Porcelain veneers are made of thin shells of porcelain while composite veneers are made of engineered resin. Dr. Alexandra S. George DDS only offers porcelain veneers because of their quality, durability, and aesthetics. Porcelain is an extremely strong material and can last for 10-15 years with proper care. On the other hand, composite veneers have a shorter lifespan of about 4-8 years.

While composite veneers are less expensive and require less time to complete, porcelain is a far stronger material with a longer lifespan. Porcelain veneers are an investment and the beautiful, natural-looking results are well worth it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are veneers covered by insurance?

Porcelain Veneers are considered an elective or cosmetic procedure and are not covered by insurance. We have chosen not to participate in insurance programs, as their requirements often prevent optimal patient care. By not taking insurance, we work directly with patients to address their pain and treatment needs effectively, rather than being constrained by the confines of insurance providers. This approach ensures that our patients receive excellent care tailored to their needs without hidden fees, premiums, co-pays, or unexpected costs.

Porcelain veneers are thin, custom-made shells designed to cover the front surface of the teeth to improve appearance, requiring minimal tooth prep. Dental crowns cover the entire visible portion of a tooth over the gum line and restore shape, size, strength, and appearance. Veneers primarily address cosmetic concerns, while crowns provide cosmetic and restorative solutions.

Good candidates for porcelain veneers include individuals with deep or severe stains, visible cracks, pitting, crooked teeth, disproportionately sized or shaped teeth, misshapen teeth, or gaps between teeth. Those looking for a durable and natural-looking improvement in their smile’s appearance are ideal candidates.

Once porcelain veneers are bonded to the teeth, they are not designed to be removed. The process involves removing a small amount of enamel to ensure a proper fit, making it a permanent alteration to the natural teeth.

Porcelain veneers can last 10-15 years or more with the correct procedure and proper hygiene. Their durability and longevity make them a valuable investment for improving smile aesthetics.

The cost of porcelain veneers varies depending on various factors, including the number of veneers and the specific requirements of the dental procedure. Given their durability, natural appearance, and stain resistance, porcelain veneers are considered an investment in cosmetic dentistry. The starting fee for a porcelain veneer is $2,300.

Porcelain veneers require removing a small amount of enamel from the front of the teeth to ensure a proper fit, which is a permanent alteration. However, when properly applied, veneers do not ruin your real teeth. They are designed to protect the surface of your teeth and improve your smile, with minimal enamel removal compared to other dental procedures.
